The Caper started out in 2000 on Sullivan Street in Punta Gorda. A restaurant and deli counter, The Caper quickly outgrew the 10-table venue and in 2004, moved into its present location.

Located in Punta Gorda on Florida’s gulf coast, halfway between Sarasota and Naples, on Florida’s Gulf Coast, the Caper is a casually elegant neighborhood restaurant, with something for EVERYONE! Chef Jeanie Roland and her husband/business manager James Roland own and operate The Perfect Caper restaurant and also Ella’s Fine Food and Drink in Westerly, Rhode Island.  The Perfect Caper is a 165-seat, display kitchen restaurant. (Ella’s is a 200-seat restaurant with private and terrace dining, featuring Chef Roland’s signature French-Asian inspired fare.) Chef Roland has always extolled the virtues of the freshest ingredients in her kitchen, as well as the use of all natural and organic ingredients for her menu. Menus change frequently, not just as a challenge to herself, but also to the staff. As many diners love their menu Favorites, it makes it hard to change the entire menu. However Chef Roland, in her pursuit of perfection, has been quoted as saying that perhaps, “she has yet to create her best dish!”
